Bible Tote Tutorial
My older bible holder would not hold my new Sunday School Book; therefore, I set out to make a Bible Tote that would accommodate the bigger size of my book plus my Bible. I keep pens and kleenex in there also, so I added pockets to the lining. Follow along with my Bible Tote Tutorial to make your own.

Cut:
Main Fabric – cut (1) 11″ x 25″
Lining – cut (1) 11″ x 25″ (I used the same as the main fabric)
Interfacing – cut (2) 11″ x 25″ (interface main fabric and lining to make it stiffer)
Straps – cut (2) 3″ x 12 1/2″ to match main fabric
Pockets – cut (2) 6″ x 7″ to match lining

Keep in mind, if you have directional fabric, that one side will be going the wrong way. I just made sure that the front piece was centered over the motif that I wanted to highlight on the front. My flowers didn’t matter that much on the back side.
I used the same fabric for my lining, however, you could use a different fabric.
Press the interfacing to the main fabric.
Additionally, I pressed interfacing to my lining because I wanted it to be stiffer.
Pockets for Bible Tote Tutorial
Turn down 1/4″ on top, the 6″ side, of each pocket.

Turn down 1″ with right sides together and pin.

Sew 3/8″ seam from top right all the way around. Trim corners.

Turn pocket out pushing corners out and press. Turn under just inside of seam so the seam won’t show.

Repeat on other pocket. Sew over first stitching making a hem on the pocket.

Place pockets on lining piece 2 1/2″ down from the top. Center pocket. Leaves 3″ on each side.

Be sure and point pockets to the top on each end. Pin in place.

Sew 1/8″ seams to secure pocket, leaving the top open.

Side Seams and Boxed Corners:
Sew the side seams 3/8″ seams on each side of main fabric, right sides together.
Fold the bottom corners together in a triangle with the seam in the center. Mark 3″ across and pin.

Sew on marked line and trim excess off. Repeat on other side seam.

Lining:
Sew the side seams of lining, BEING SURE to leave an opening on one side to turn.

Box the corners of the lining like you did for the outer main fabric.
Straps of Bible Tote Tutorial:
Fold strap pieces in half lengthwise and press. Unfold and fold each edge to the center and fold together again on original press.

Sew 1/8″ from each edge on each strap.

Pin straps on. Edge of straps will be 2 3/4″ from side seam. Sew straps down using 1/4″ seams.

This would be a good time to add a label if you want one.
At Last –
At this point, turn the lining fabric right side out and place down in the outer fabric with straps down. Right sides of fabric are facing each other.

Matching raw edges and side seams, pin around the top edge.

Sew 3/8″ seams around entire top edge.

Turn right side out through opening in lining. By all means, finger press the seams open.

Pin the opening in the lining closed turning 3/8″ under.

Lastly, hand stitch the opening closed. Use a blind stitch. Optionally, you could machine stitch it.

Stuff the lining down inside. Press. Subsequently, Top-Stitch around the top edge.

I keep pens in one pocket, and tissues in the other.
